Last week, Trump’s regime signaled that they may deploy military troops to Portland. While we do not know yet whether this will happen, we do know that now is the time to start speaking out and making it clear that Oregonians do not want troops on our streets.

By coming together and peacefully standing up to the Trump regime’s threat, we can reject violence and make this a country where no one fears for our lives or our loved ones. We all deserve to live safely, speak freely, and move through our neighborhoods without fear — no matter our background, origin, or party. Violence has no place in our politics or our communities.

No Troops on Our Streets

WHAT'S HAPPENING: After ordering the military to occupy Los Angeles and Washington, DC, Trump’s regime is now threatening to deploy troops to additional American cities against the will of those communities, naming Portland, Oregon, as a potential next target. 

Oregonians across the state know that this unwanted and dangerous deployment of troops on our streets would endanger our families, our freedoms, and our futures. We are coming together to clearly voice our opposition.

Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley joined more than a dozen other U.S. Senators in urging a federal appeals court to bar President Donald Trump from deploying federalized troops in Los Angeles. Sen. Wyden said in a statement, “This brief gives voice to Oregonians across the state who are saying loud and clear that Trump’s illegal deployment of troops on the streets of cities across America must end immediately.”

We must speak out now – before a potential deployment – to make it clear that Oregonians do not want the National Guard deployed on the streets of Portland or anywhere else in our state. And we remain committed to resisting this overreach through peaceful and nonviolent protest. 

HOW WE'RE TAKING ACTION:

• Speak out against any military deployment in Oregon by posting a Protect Oregon graphic on social media.

  • Here are some examples of what to say when sharing these graphics:

    • Oregonians are joining together to tell Trump’s regime: NO troops on our streets. We will not stand for this attack on our communities.

    • Deploying troops to Oregon would represent a direct abuse of power by the Trump regime, endangering our families, our freedoms, and our futures.

    • Our communities will not be divided by the Trump regime’s repeated attempts to stoke violence against our people.

    • We must speak out now against this threat of military occupation in Oregon to stop the Trump regime from deploying troops into our cities and towns.

  

  Protecting Immigrant Oregonians

  WHAT'S HAPPENING: Trump has signaled his intent to target sanctuary jurisdictions, including Oregon, which is proudly the oldest sanctuary state in the country.

  • Unite Oregon is holding a mass call to brief community members on how they can take action to defend immigrant Oregonians. The call will be on Wednesday, September 17th at 6:00 pm. Use this link to register.

  WHAT'S HAPPENING: Oregon AFL-CIO is the latest in a growing list of trusted endorsers supporting Oregon’s Equal Rights Amendment, which would affirm the right to abortion, contraception and IVF, transgender healthcare, and same-gender marriage in the Oregon Constitution regardless of what policies or decisions are made on a national level.
