Trump’s Budget is Wreaking Havoc on Oregonians. Write to your lawmakers today.
Protecting trans rights. Fighting climate change. Ensuring every Oregonian has affordable healthcare. The values we care about are under attack in Trump's latest disaster of a budget bill, a cruel, careless, and chaotic manifestation of his hateful agenda that would wreak havoc in Oregon and across the country. But we're not giving up. We're calling on our local and state elected officials to do everything they can to keep Oregon communities healthy, housed, fed, and safe. Help us fight back by standing together.
PROTECTING ACCESS TO GENDER AFFIRMING CARE
WHAT'S HAPPENING: This month, the U.S. Supreme Court will rule in the case of U.S. v. Skrmetti, which will determine whether Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth is unconstitutional. The ACLU argues that it is a clear violation of the Equal Protect Clause of the 14th Amendment.
While this case is being heard, the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress are trying to push through legislation that will gut Medicaid services – and ban Medicaid funding for gender affirming care for all trans folks. Basic Rights Oregon is sounding the alarm to state legislators, urging them to pass a budget that covers this gap in critical health care funding. Join BRO by writing to your legislators today.
HOW WE'RE FIGHTING BACK:
Write to your state legislators today to urge them to cover any gaps in Medicaid coverage created by the Trump administration, including gender affirming care.

PROTECTING OUR IMMIGRANT & REFUGEE NEIGHBORS
WHAT'S HAPPENING: Across the country, ICE agents are showing up to courtrooms and arresting immigrants seeking asylum with no due process. In Portland Immigration Court this week, ICE agents arrested a woman seeking asylum in the hallway of the courthouse right after her immigration hearing. According to Oregon For All, the woman was seeking asylum in the United States from Mexico after suffering violence because of her gender identity and sexual orientation.
These detainments set a dangerous precedent of suspending due process for immigrants – particularly those fleeing violence in their home country. Oregon has been a sanctuary state since 1987, meaning local law enforcement and state agencies do not participate in immigration enforcement without a judicial warrant. These unethical and unconstitutional detainments by ICE mark yet another attempt by the Trump administration to bully cities and states into complying with his cruel policies and to create fear in our communities.
HOW WE'RE FIGHTING BACK:
Share this Know Your Rights document with members of your community to ensure folks going to immigration court have the information they need if confronted by ICE.

PROTECTING CLEAN ENERGY INVESTMENTS
WHAT'S HAPPENING: The budget reconciliation bill that Congressional Republicans recently passed would gut Inflation Reduction Act funding, which was one of the largest investments in the fight against climate change. If it gets signed into law, the reconciliation bill would gut clean energy production, raise energy costs for families, and eliminate thousands of jobs.
Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley have stood in strong opposition to these cuts – and they are the last check we have on this reckless spending by House Republicans. The Oregon League of Conservation Voters is urging everyone to thank Merkley and Wyden for all they have done to protect our climate and urge them to continue the fight to stop the reconciliation bill from passing the Senate.
HOW WE'RE FIGHTING BACK:
Write to Senators Wyden and Merkley to thank them for what they have done to protect the climate and urge them to continue the fight to stop cuts to clean energy funding.
RALLYING TOGETHER TO FUND OREGON NOW
WHAT'S HAPPENING: Yesterday, thousands of Oregonians rallied in Salem to ask state budget writers to pass a budget that keeps people housed, healthy, fed, and safe. With just a few weeks left in the state's budget-writing process, it is critical that lawmakers hear us loud and clear.
