While details are still emerging, we are outraged and heartbroken by what appears to be escalating violence against our communities. Just a day after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, we are deeply troubled by federal agents’ pattern of aggression, impunity, and violence. We are calling for an independent and transparent investigation that fully involves state and local officials and for ICE to immediately pause all operations in Oregon. The presence of immigration agencies in our communities puts all of us in danger. We stand with our immigrant and refugee neighbors, vital and loved members of our communities who have been cruelly attacked by this administration, and we are committed to peacefully protesting and resisting this gross and violent abuse of power. As we learn more about what happened, one thing is painfully clear: Masked, untrained federal agents are unleashing more chaos and violence in our streets, shooting and killing community members and acting with increasing impunity.These agents must be held accountable, and it is past time for them to leave our communities. From using a 5-year-old as bait on the streets of Minneapolis to detaining a Gresham family seeking medical care for their child in Portland, ICE agents are ripping families and communities apart and putting all of us in danger. This killing is an escalation, but not an isolated incident. It is part of a broader and deeply troubling pattern of violence, impunity, and overreach that ICE has been inflicting on communities across our country, including our immigrant &amp; refugee communities. The shooting by federal agents also comes amid an escalating federal crackdown on constitutionally protected protest and civic organizing. Governor Walz called on communities everywhere — including here in Portland or wherever ICE operations are coming next — to stand with Minnesota against this unnecessary violence. We heed that call. From the organizers: As Trump spends billions of our tax money for an undeclared, unconstitutional war with thousands dead, his 2027 budget plan includes billions for military spending while cutting safety net programs such as Medicare and Medicaid, and defunding the low income energy assistance program. We object to our hard earned tax money being spent on giving tax breaks to the wealthy, to war, fund ICE, while cutting programs that help people thrive. Today we are demanding that our tax funds support helping low and moderate income people. We are demanding that out tax money stop supporting an already bloated military budget.

April 1 Business Canvass for Day Without an Immigrant

On January 30, hundreds of businesses across Oregon took part in the national general strike and closed their doors to protest ICE violence in Minnesota and our own communities. Now, we’re gearing up for another massive day of action on May Day (May 1) to show our support for our immigrant friends, family, and neighbors.&nbsp;In collaboration with Protect Oregon, PCUN and Oregon For All are launching a one-day canvass on Wednesday, April 1 to get local businesses involved in May Day. Together, we are making it clear: Immigrant workers are the heart of Oregon – they keep our communities running and enrich every part of our state.On April 1st, canvassers will drop off posters and talk with local businesses about joining us on May Day. Canvasses are happening in Portland, Salem, Woodburn, Bend, and the Coast, with opportunities to organize in other areas. Trainings will take place on March 26 (Spanish) and March 30 (English).
